Our Founding Father
Walter Hagen is considered by many to be the first superstar golfer. Born in 1892, he won 11 major championships over his long career and helped popularize the sport in the early 20th century. His flair and showmanship brought golf into the mainstream and made him an international celebrity.
In 1916, Walter Hagen partnered with the A.G. Spalding Company to create a line of golf equipment and apparel bearing his name. And so the Walter Hagen® brand was born! Hagen’s designs and endorsements gave his products instant credibility among serious golfers.
Over the next few decades, Walter Hagen® became a premier name in golf gear. As Hagen played in exhibitions and tournaments around the world, he showcased his branded apparel and clubs. Generations of golfers aspired to own Walter Hagen® products just like the master himself.
Carrying On Hagen’s Legacy
After Walter Hagen died in 1969, our company lived on under new ownership. We strived to continue Hagen’s vision of quality craftsmanship and stylish design. The famous Hagen name still meant a great deal, even after his passing.
In the 1980s and 90s, Walter Hagen® shifted focus to apparel and soft goods. We emerged as a leading brand in golf shirts, pants, shorts, and outerwear. While no longer making clubs and balls, we carried on Hagen’s sense of style by outfitting golfers in quality polos, hats, pullovers, and more.
